@lahomelessservicesauthority must stop punishing their employees who speak out against criminalization and police brutality, especially as they publicly advocate for racial justice and signal support for #blacklivesmatter.
We know Kristy who wrote the petition. Kristy has been a tremendous help as we relied on her constantly when we needed guidance to help our unhoused neighbors. Kristy is a gem and LAHSA is lucky to have her, as they were lucky to have @ashleynicholeb. LA is a deeply unjust place. Kristy and Ashley have housed and helped countless people as they advocate for their clients' rights, and for that, they face retaliation from LAHSA. Meanwhile, LAPD officer Frank Hernandez, who has killed people and was recently charged for assaulting an unhoused man, gets paid over $200k a year. •

@blmlosangeles will be presenting the People’s Budget to the LA City Council tomorrow morning! tune in and watch at 10am and then show your support by calling in to give public comment during the Budget & Finance Committee meeting at noon, and call your city council person’s office (especially Mitch O’Farrell who thinks teaming up with a PR company to paint a street is going to distract you from actually defunding LAPD). you can also tag social media posts in support of the People’s Budget with #DefundThePolice #PeoplesBudgetLA and #CareNotCops
Yesterday’s action was a powerful display of solidarity with our unhoused neighbors. LA’s unhoused community is disproportionately Black and experiences the brunt of police violence. #BlackLivesMatter means #UnhousedBlackLivesMatter and #TransBlackLivesMatter
LA’s housing and COVID crisis disproportionately affects Black People. We are continuing to demand the city to #DefundThePolice and reallocate sources and funds to housing and healthcare.
Black People make up only 8% of LA’s population but about 42% of the unhoused population.
To quote @antipoliceterrorproject Black New Deal: “The disproportionate impact on Black people demands a disproportionate response - most of the resources must be given/directed to the greatest need.”
Rally will be lead by Black folks, housed and unhoused. We ask that non Black folks be respectful and follow their lead. Do not escalate any situation. We prioritize Black and unhoused folks to be closest to the speakers/leaders.
Also, please be mindful of residents living there. We are rallying at the part of the lake where residents aren’t residing. We should all be wearing PPE and social distancing.
Feel free to bring posters in line w the demands of @lacanetwork and @blmlosangeles
Also, bring signs as we remember the names of all the Black and unhoused folks slain by LA’s entities of law enforcement.
