We work closely with a wide network of other local grassroots movements, giving us strength through allies and a deep knowledge of how to solve pressing problems in LA. As a result, we’ve staged powerful campaigns to elect progressives and work with them to advance key policies to advance social, economic, environmental and racial justice.

The Opportunity

Position: Canvasser

Job Location: Los Angeles, CA

Position Type: Seasonal, Part-time

Compensation: $25 per hour

Reports to: Project Manager

Description:

The Canvasser's primary responsibility will be knocking on doors in key areas across the County of Los Angeles that the campaign has identified as critical target areas. This position is temporary and strategically targeted to achieve distinct objectives in our approach to direct voter outreach. Each canvasser will be assigned specific neighborhoods to carry out their daily door-knocking goals. Canvassers will work with a team of colleagues, organizational members, and volunteers to reach as many potential voters as possible.

The Canvasser will report directly to the Project Manager.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Implement strategic plans to maximize voter outreach and engagement in support of progressive candidates.

  • Diligently record and report essential data to the Project Manager daily.

  • Conduct daily canvassing operations, including the launch and management of field activities in designated areas.

  • Attend and contribute to strategy meetings, providing insights and recommendations for improving field operations.

  • Maintain data integrity on voter engagement metrics and campaign-related information.

  • Provide input on field-related materials, such as voter contact scripts and event descriptions.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines related to canvassing activities.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of canvassing or related experience working with the public preferred

  • A basic knowledge of Los Angeles elections

  • A strong ability to work independently to advance campaign goals

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse groups of people

  • Ability to multitask, manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledgable or some experience with using PDI or other CRM tools

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of moving around for voter contact activity

  • This is an in-person position and will require a physical presence in the local office

  • Must be able to transport up to 15 pounds at times

  • This position requires outdoor walking and navigating the physical and built environment of LA, including hills, stairs, and variable terrain

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal Canvassing hours are 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday

  • Employees may be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights.

  • Employees are required to abide by certain blackout dates during a campaign cycle or other key deadlines, and generally not allowed to take off during blackout periods.

  • Emergencies are not affected by this policy

What Else Should You Know

Location and Travel: The position will involve both in-person work at our Los Angeles office and fieldwork across LA County. The office is accessible via the B (Red) line Metro and bus routes.

Schedule: The position is temporary, part time, ending November 5, 2024
